THE HISTORY OF THE SOVIET CINEMA IN MOVIE POSTERS. 1919-1991

The exhibition will present more than 300 works by famous graphic artists - Stenberg brothers, Michael Hazanovskiy, Boris Zelenskiy, Miron Lukyanov, Vasiliy Ostrovskiy and many others. These are unique constructivist posters of the 1920s, rare works of the Great Patriotic War period, posters for famous Soviet movies of the “thaw” period (1954-1964) and of the late Soviet period (1970-1990 's).

Russian viewers know and love the Soviet legendary movies - “Nine Days in One Year” (by Mikhail Romm, 1962), “Ivan's Childhood” (by Andrei Tarkovsky, 1962), “Do not worry!” (by Georgiy Daneliya, 1968), “The Diamond Arm” (by Leonid Gaidai, 1969), “White Sun of the Desert” (by Vladimir Motyl, 1970), “The Twelve Chairs” (by Leonid Gaidai, 1971). This exhibition is a rare opportunity to see the posters for these movies, to learn more about their authors, and to trace the history of development of the graphic language which combined a lot of foremost artistic ideas of that time.

The exhibition will be accompanied by master classes and public talks featuring art historians and poster designers.
